Since taking over from Sarri earlier this year, Frank Lampard has turned Chelsea in the direction most fans and the club will love to go. Currently, the club is 4th on the Premier League table and have a chance to challenge for the league.
If anything at all, it is that Frank Lampard knows what he is doing and his player management is top-notch. Guess we can’t expect less from a former player who understands player relationships also means much for the club to move forward.
We are not the only one pleased with the former Chelsea man’s performance. Former Chelsea hero, Joe Cole also bared his mind about Lampard’s performance while speaking on BT Sport as cited on Express UK.
“The key thing there is the flexibility,”
“Too much under the Sarri era it was so monotonous and so robotic.
“Frank’s changed the system two or three times here, he’s played Mount in two or three positions because these lads are well-schooled in that way of playing.
“So as they’ve come into the team, it’s just been smooth.
“I think continuing with that level of flexibility, who they’re playing against, can they adjust, and I think these boys, the education they’re getting, is fantastic and they’re winning on the job.”
In all of these, what anyone can agree with on the way Sarri handled Chelsea while he was in charge was his inability to change. Truly, he had led Chelsea to a top-four finish in the Premier League and the Europa Cup trophy but his misdeed was that he doesn’t change his style and was making the players play old football, the type most people find boring these days.
What is Lampard doing right?
Firstly, one has to praise his flexibility. He is not scared to try new things and even more, he always finds his way to make them work. The formations he has played with so far is an example of this. It’s interesting to see Frank Lampard play the 3-4-3 to start with and having it work out for him even with the obvious flaws to it is more than impressive.
Secondly, Lampard has given a number of the club’s academy graduates opportunities in the first team so far this term. The likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, and Fikayo Tomori have been giving the chance to prove their talent on a large platform and so far, the youngsters have not misused the chance.
Where it leaves Chelsea
Chelsea are currently 4th in the Premier League table following Saturday’s 1-0 home win against Newcastle United. Following that is his Champions League away win against Ajax.
It is worthy of note that Ajax is in a good form right now and Chelsea taking a win against them, particularly in Amsterdam proves that the team is ready to take on anything.
The type of flexibility that Frank Lampard has displayed so far makes it easy to conclude that he is the kind of coach that boost the confidence of his players and gives everyone an equal opportunity to show themselves to the world.
Conclusion
We might not be too far gone into the season yet but Chelsea’s performance so far is worth praising. And even more, the youngsters in the team should get more thumbs up.
It is a different thing to give the young lads a chance but it is another thing for them to use it well. Guess that’s one of the reasons Frank Lampard would say he is proud of his team after their win against Ajax.
