Koulibaly and Thiago Silva Defensive Partnership
Thiago Silva has proven that age is just a number. The Brazilian has defiled logic and played at the top level for multiple seasons. He came to the EPL as a 36-year-old and is still performing at the top level. His first game saw him make a rare mistake, but he has since become the heartbeat of the Chelsea defense.
The Brazilian is still at the top of his game, but many are wary that relying on a 38-year-old for an entire season might be too much, even though he can deliver. He would need someone to help take the load off and keep the defense together. As a result, Koulibaly is the perfect fit for the team.
We know the Senegalese are a leader that knows how to control the defense. Therefore, he can step up to lead or partner with Silva to provide the much-needed cover for the team’s goal. In addition, having two strong CB presence in the team would help the coach switch tactics that would help them attack more.
Raheem Sterling and the Other Front Three
The signing of Raheem Sterling brought a breath of fresh air to the team. The top forward already has an immense level of experience in the EPL. Therefore, we expect him to hit the ground running once the new season starts. The team has a reliable player upfront, and others can emulate his leadership.
Sterling has played for the top two teams in the league and delivered on both occasions. In that case, we expect him to bring his incredible playing style to the team and help Tuchel achieve his goals for the new season. Sterling would be joining the likes of Mount, Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech, Werner, and Odoi on that front.
With these players, Tuchel would have to find a way to ensure that he puts together a solid front three and includes the rest of the squad. The problem with having a big team is keeping everyone happy. Therefore, Tuchel has his world cut out as he has to find a place for Sterling and others in the front three.
Conor Gallagher and Other Return Loanees
One of the most incredible parts of this Chelsea Football Club is its famed Cobham academy with many talents. Every season they have many players out on loan, and they get to call back the ones that did exceptionally well to give them a chance in the EPL. In that case, we expect Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour, Armando Borja, and Levi Colwill to join the team.
Of the list, Gallagher was the most impressive as he was able to help Crystal Palace avoid relegation, and he went on to win accolades with the club. He was their best player from the start of the season until the end, when he started slowing down and hoping for a return to Chelsea in the new season.
Other than Gallagher, another impressive player on loan last season was Levi Colwill with Huddersfield. Although the team couldn’t make it back to the EPL, Colwill was by far their best defender, and he will surely learn a lot from playing with Silva and Koulibaly.
