The current Chelsea squad is starting to show us that anything is possible with the right mentality. As surprising as it is to see the squad do so well with the youngsters given the opportunity to prove their talent in the first team, it also teaches us that we shouldn’t simply dismiss the idea of something before trying to see if it works.
That is one of the things Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard will be remembered for in his coaching career. Taking charge in Chelsea at a time many thought he would fail due to inexperience, losing his first opening match to Manchester United but bouncing back up quickly, learning from his mistakes and putting a plan in place to make things work.
Chelsea are currently under a transfer ban that can only see them sell out players but can’t bring in players and as sad as that was, the manager has done well compared to other managers that took charge of other clubs at the same time he did. He used the tough situation he found himself in to bring out the talent out in some of his players.
Currently, Chelsea is third in the Premier League table, tied on the same point with Leicester City but just below them on goal difference. Eight points below top of the league, Liverpool and with hopes of challenging for the league title. One has to agree that Frank Lampard has done impressive work so far.
The Chelsea squad we see now looks like the type that has a great connection with both the manager, the club and the fans and it’s safe to say Frank Lampard has been successful at making the players see him as one of them, creating an environment of mutual respect and trust.
The admiration most Chelsea players have for Frank Lampard has shown so much in how they relate on and off the field and one of those is the speech of Mateo Kovacic as seen on the club’s website.
“It’s been nice, nice of course [working under Lampard].
“Now I see why he was such a great player. His mentality is really strong. That’s what he wants to bring to us: to have a strong mentality, a winning mentality. He always won a lot of trophies.
“He has a great connection with every player. He is a great guy, he likes to joke, he likes to laugh.
“He’s the perfect teacher for us. We need to learn from him, and for now we are enjoying it, he is as well enjoying it, so it’s a nice connection.
“Now the moment is good. When the tough moments come it will be a test for us and for him, but we need to keep training as we are doing. We are working really hard.
“Four months he has been here, and every training was hard, and that’s important being at such a great club like Chelsea.”
Why the winning mentality is dominant in Chelsea
We have seen the quality players in the Chelsea squad and how much of a talent they are. The youngsters have shown the will to win and it’s easy to assume they vibe on the same energy level with Frank Lampard. Being a former player who played for this club and who knows what the club has always been about, he has been able to build up the kind of squad he wants through hard work.
Surely, hard times will come but with their current form and the rate of development, we can be rest assured that they will be ready to weather the storm.
Chelsea is going strong and that is because of the strong winning mentality the team operates on. Both players and the manager wants to win and they go all out for it. That in itself alone is an admirable thing to watch.
