Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso could be on his way out of the club soon. The Spaniard has been drawing links with a move away from the Blues, with Inter seemingly keen on signing him. And it is hardly any surprise, considering how Frank Lampard’s side has been looking at the possibility of signing Atalanta star Robin Gosens. If you feel this deal might happen, you can visit Betting Tips Nigeria and see what odds they are offering.
Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (via FootballItalia) have said that the Blues did scout Gosens in Atalanta’s recent 5-0 win over Parma. The game would have convinced Chelsea that the wing-back could be their man to replace Alonso in the long-term.
Gosens got a goal and an assist for himself, playing Gian Piera Gasperini’s trademark 3-4-3 shape. The Dutchman had one dribble to his name, winning one tackle and winning two aerial duels. He also completed two key passes in what is a rather ultra-attacking system.
That system has brought the best out of Gosens. He is benefitting from how Atalanta are at their flowing best, going forward. He has a tally of six goals and four assists in all competitions, playing 1.6 key passes per game for La Dea.
Not just going forward, but Gosens is sound at the back too. He has been dribbled past just once per game, winning 1.2 tackles per game and making 1.1 interceptions per game too. It is because of these qualities to bomb up and down the pitch that he has become one of the most accomplished wing-backs in Europe and helped Atalanta beat the predictions of the top 10 Nigerian sports betting sites by qualifying for the next round of the Champions League.
Gosens is known to be a rather determined character. This is a player who came to Atalanta from Heracles Almelo for just €900k. Like many other such players at the Bergamo-based side, he has risen up the ranks and has become a very reliable player for a Champions League club. That rise to prominence screams of a very sound mentality, considering where he comes from.
Frank Lampard would love that in a player. The manner in which many of Chelsea’s youngsters have risen to prominence this season is a reflection of that. Gosens’ career has followed quite a similar graph, even though he wasn’t as young as the Blues’ youngsters.
This is a player who was a first-choice left-back at Heracles as a 22-year-old- something that will help Chelsea.
Lampard has been using a 3-4-3 shape more often in recent games. The games against Tottenham and Southampton. Alonso’s defensive weaknesses have always come under criticism and the same goes for Emerson, who came from another Serie A side in Roma in the January of 2018.
But Gosens provides something very different. He is much more technically sound than the two. The aforementioned numbers show that his defensive attributes are not bad at all either. Atalanta’s attacking style gives him the freedom to move up and down and Chelsea have to give that to him as well.
It is also worth pointing out that Atalanta are prone to leaking goals too. They might pick up huge wins- like their recent 5-0 win over AC Milan. They have scored the most number of goals in the Serie A, but they’ve let in 25 goals too. That is the sixth-best defensive record in the Serie A. And there is a generally accepted perception that Atalanta are all about goals. They will attack as they always do, even if they are prone to conceding goals.
It brings the best out of them. And the players thrive on that too. It includes Gosens. Chelsea won’t really play that ultra-attacking brand of football. But they might be getting a very reliable player in Gosens.
