Chelsea is a team filled with stars, but every season we get individual performers that bring in that bit of extra into the team. After Eden Hazard’s departure, the team has had to turn to other players to take the mantle. Mason Mount was the player to give that edge since he got to play for the first team in the 2019/2020 season.
The player has been a sensation on the team and continues to improve every season. He will undoubtedly be part of the Three Lions squad going to Qatar 2022 because every manager trusts him to deliver and work for the team. Mason Mount is the current Chelsea Best Player Award holder.
Mount has won two from his three seasons with the club. Therefore, he would be one of the top contenders. So, in addition to Mason Mount, we’ve listed five other players that we think will most likely win the Chelsea Best Player Award this season.
Mason Mount
Mason Mount has been the brightest star from Chelsea’s academy since John Terry. The English youngster has continued to deliver at a high level, and when there have been doubts about his abilities, he shows how good he is and why the managers trust him. Undoubtedly, Mount is a superstar even at a young age.
Since he entered the senior team, Mount has been a focal point, and even though there are parts of his game that need improvement, he is one of the future and present. The player would undoubtedly be in contention for Chelsea’s best player award this season because of how well he plays every season.
Thiago Silva
Despite being in his late 30s, Thiago Silva delivers at the highest level. The player is one of the most reliable in the squad.
He continues to show that age is just a number, and even though the EPL is competitive, he can deliver. Silva has been pivotal to the squad in the last two seasons and continuously led the defense perfectly.
We expect the Brazilian to continue on his high performance and keep delivering until his 40s. However, we wouldn’t want the entire burden of the defense resting on him, given his age. Therefore, we might see him rest in a few games and only play the important matches throughout the season.
Reece James
Reece James is another young sensation from Cobham who has been on an upward trajectory since his debut for the senior team. The player is among those that enjoyed Lampard’s reign, allowing youngsters to get their time of day with the first team. Undoubtedly, he has used his opportunity ideally.
Everyone who has seen James play would know he has the potential to play at the highest level and would be a perfect fit for the team for many years. Despite having to battle through injuries last season, James was one of Chelsea’s best players, and we think he will continue on that path this season.
Mateo Kovacic
The Croatian midfielder is a sensational player with tricky feet and can ping passes from central midfield. The player continues offering incredible playing styles to improve the team’s performance. Without Kovacic, the team struggled and couldn’t perform well to their standard.
As a result, we would expect the player to give us some sensational moments and be part of the top players to contend for the Best Player award at the end of the season. Therefore, we would be looking at who he partners with within the midfield and if Tuchel will continue to utilize the midfield pivot or switch to a midfield three.
Raheem Sterling
Although the player is new to the team, Raheem Sterling is one of the top contenders for the best player award. He is a sensational attacker that can deliver at the highest stage for the team. He continues to offer something that the current crop of attackers in the team lack, and he is experienced.
Coming from a star-studded team, Sterling has the chance to become one of Chelsea’s best players, and we expect him to be a contender. We would love to see how he plays with the team. Sterling would be a top addition to the team this season, and as a result, he would be part of the players contending for the best player award.
Kalidou Koulibaly
This would be Koulibaly’s first season in the EPL, and we know how many top players struggle when they first land in the country. However, Koulibaly is a leading player with incredible technicality. The player has continued to offer his team some defensive skills. Therefore, he would be a top player in the new season.
Koulibaly is a tough defender that would continue to play at the highest level in the coming years. Therefore, we expect him to be part of the players competing for Chelsea’s Best Player awards. Undoubtedly, we don’t expect him to win it in his first season, but he would be part of the list.
