Who is Christian Pulisic?
Christian Mate Pulisic, simply known as Christian Pulisic, is an American forward who plays for Chelsea.
Pulisic was born on 18 September 1998 in Pennsylvania. Christian, nicknamed “Captain America”, joined Borussia Dortmund in winter 2015, when he was only 16-year-old.
Pulisic played in the U17 and U19 teams. After scoring ten and assisting 8 in only 15 matches with the Borussia Dortmund youth teams, the American attacker was called to join the senior team over winter break.
In winter 2016, the 22-year-old winger made his Bundesliga debut in a 2–0 victory over Ingolstadt. Christian scored his first Bundesliga goal for Die Schwarzgelben on April 17, opening the scoring in a 3–0 home victory over Hamburg.
With his goal with Stuttgart on Christian broke another Bundesliga scoring record by becoming the youngest footballer to score two goals in Bundesliga.
In winter 2019, the American attacker signed with Chelsea for a £58m transfer fee.
The agreement also saw Pulisic remain at Signal Iduna Park on loan for the rest of the 2018–19 campaign.
On May 29, Christian won his first Champions League after the Blues won 1–0 with Man City in Porto, becoming the first American footballer to play in a UEFA Champions League Final.
What is Christian Pulisic’s international career like?
Christian had represented the United States at the U15 and U17 levels. Pulisic captained the U17 team at the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup, where the attacker scored a goal and an assist in three matches.
During his two years with the team, Christian scored a total of 20 goals in 34 matches. The 22-year-old winger had been eligible to play internationally for Croatia but declined the chance.
On March 27, 2016, the American forward was called up to the senior squad by Jürgen Klinsmann ahead of a World Cup qualifying match with Guatemala.
Pulisic became the youngest footballer to score for the national team in the modern period when he put home a late goal in a 4–0 friendly victory over Bolivia.
Despite Christian’s impressive displays, the United States failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
On November 20, 2018, the 22-year-old winger became the youngest footballer to captain the United States in a friendly defeat to Italy. Christian was 20 years and 63 days old.
In summer 2021, the attacker captained the United States national team to a 3–2 win in the first-ever CONCACAF Nations League final with Mexico, scoring the winning goal by converting a penalty in the 114th minute.
