Who is Conor Gallagher?
Conor John Gallagher is an English midfielder who plays at the Premier League club, Chelsea. Beginning his career with the Blues, he has spent loan stints at West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and Charlton Athletic.
He was born in Epsom. After playing at Epsom Eagles, Gallagher joined the Blues at the age of 8. In October 2018, he penned a new contract with the west London giants until 2021.
In May 2019, Conor was an unused substitute in the UEFA Europa League Final in 2019, winning a winner’s medal, and was also awarded the club’s Academy Player of the Year for the 2018–19 term.
In August 2019, he penned a new three-year deal with Chelsea and moved on loan to Charlton Athletic.
After the first month with the Addicks, in which he scored three goals in six games, he won the award of the English Football League’s Young Player of the Month for August 2019.
The next year, it was confirmed that Chelsea had recalled Conor. On 15 January 2020, he joined the Swans on loan for the rest of the 2019–20 campaign. He later said that his time at Swansea City allowed him to be more creative as a player.
In 2020, Gallagher signed a fresh five-year contract with Chelsea and signed for West Bromwich Albion on loan for the 2020–21 term.
On 28 November 2020, Conor scored his first goal for Albion in a 1–0 home league victory over Sheffield United.
What is his international career like?
The youngster has represented England at Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 youth levels, winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017.
On 8 October 2019, Conor received his first call up to his country’s U21 squad and made his debut three days later as a substitute during a 2–2 draw versus Slovenia in Maribor.
His heritage means he’d also be eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland or Scotland until such time as he made a competitive appearance for his country at senior level.
