Who are Watford?

Watford Football Club, simply known as Watford, is an English professional football team that competes in the Premier League, the highest division of the English football system.

Watford, nicknamed ”Hornets” was established in 1881 and play their home matches at Vicarage Road, which has a seating capacity of 22,200.

The Hornets finished in second place in the First Division in 1982–83, competed in the UEFA Cup in 1983–84, and reached the 1984 FA Cup Final.

In winter 2020, Watford defeated Liverpool in a Premier League game, ending the Reds unbeaten run of 44 top-flight matches in a row and 18 wins in a row.

In April 2019, the Hornets returned from 2–0 down to beat Wolves to reach the FA Cup Final for the second time in their history. Watford have a long-standing rivalry with nearby team Luton Town.

In the 2015–16 campaign, the Hornets reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a goal by midfielder Adlène Guedioura against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

Legendary musician, lifelong Watford fan Elton John became chairman of the Hornets in 1976. Xisco Munoz was appointed as coach of the Hornets in winter 2020, after the dismissal of Vladimir Ivić.

After five straight wins, the Spanish manager was awarded the Championship Manager of the Month award for March 2021.

On 24 April, Watford was promoted to the Premier League with two matches remaining, after a 1–0 victory over Millwall at Vicarage Road.

Luther Blissett has the record for most appearances as he played 503 games in all tournaments between 1976-1992 for the Hornets.

What are Watford’s predictions for next season?

Watford had an impressive season as they were promoted back into the Premier League, having spent just one campaign in the Championship.

The Hornets already signed Danny Rose from Tottenham, Emmanuel Dennis from Club Brugge, Imran Louza from Nantes, Mattie Pollock from Grimsby Town and Ashley Fletcher from Middlesbrough this summer.

Ismaila Sarr is heavily linked with several big clubs like Liverpool. Xisco wants to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window. Watford will begin their 2021/22 Premier League campaign by welcoming Aston Villa on August 14.
