Chelsea and Manchester City are in the race for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa. Italy international, who is currently on loan in Juventus, is already courted by the Blues and Bayern Munich, following his impressive displays for Old Lady and country.
Son of the revered Italian player Enrico Chiesa, the 23-year-old winger, made his Serie A breakthrough at Fiorentina. And after playing over 150 competitive games for La Viola, Federico joined the Bianconeri last summer in a two-year-long loan deal.
Chiesa hasn’t had to look back since, with the forward being involved in 16 league goals last season, emerging as one of the bright stars in an otherwise dire season for the Old Lady.
However, the Italian winger made an even bigger impact in the recently concluded Euro 2020. With two important goals in matches with Austria and Spain, Federico was one of the crucial figures of the national team that lifted the coveted trophy, even getting selected in the Team of the Tournament.
Earlier this month, the London club were reported to be interested in attaining the services of the Italian attack in light of his recent form. It appears Chiesa has been identified as the ideal option for the German manager, as he hopes to add more quality in his ranks this transfer window.
Bundesliga giants’ interest is fascinating, though and perhaps an indicator of Kingsley Coman’s unknown future at the Allianz Arena. France international has recently become a subject of interest from Premier League teams, including Liverpool.
However, with Man City joining the battle, Bianconeri’s hopes of keeping hold of Federico is sure to receive a big blow. It is no doubt that the Old Lady will exercise the €60m buyout clause embedded in Chiesa’s loan deal, which means they are in a position to ask for a hefty fee for the services of their forward.
Former Fiorentina winger is more than likely to cost over the €100m mark, perhaps even posing questions over the possibility of Man City shifting their interest away from their primary target Jack Grealish.
Recent reports suggest that Aston Villa attacker has agreed on personal terms with the Cityzens, but it won’t be surprising to see the Spanish tactician prioritise a move for Juventus forward instead.
At the age of 23, Chiesa offers a better prospect for the future. But his lack of experience in the Premier League may give Jack Grealish the advantage, so it will be interesting to see how both of these transfer sagas transpire over the coming month.
