Chelsea enter the battle to sign Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi, who West Ham United and Borussia Dortmund are also pursuing.
Italy international is a product of the Neroverdi youth academy and has spent his whole playing career with Sassuolo barring a loan stint at Juventus in the early parts of the last decade.
A mainstay in the side, Berardi has been one of the most consistent players in Serie A in recent years and enjoyed an excellent 2020/21 season. Following that, Domenico was also impressed at the UEFA Euro 2020, where the winger helped Italy win the competition.
Berardi’s rise to stardom has led to strong interest from several top teams around Europe, including Liverpool and Spurs. And now, Blues and Hammers have also emerged as suitors for the Italian forward.
Thomas Tuchel’s have an abundance of attacking options within their roster already, with Pulisic, Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi, Mount, Werner, Havertz all capable of playing in the front-line.
But there have been some rumblings about the future of Morocco international after a difficult debut season in Premier League, while Hudson-Odoi was also not afforded much playing time by the German coach.
Throw in Timo Werner’s profligate nature in attack in the last campaign, it makes sense that the Blues are looking to add another goalscoring forward to their midst this transfer window.
Federico Chiesa was seen as a target by Chelsea, but they were rebuffed in their attempts to sign the Italian winger, leading to them turning their focus to the 26-year-old attacker instead.
However, the Blues are likely to face a contest from the Hammers in pursuit of Berardi. West Ham United could use more alternatives out wide following the permanent departure of Felipe Anderson, while Andriy Yarmolenko also looks ready for an exit this summer.
Irrespective of the 24-year-old winger’s future at West Ham United, David Moyes & co. would be well-served by signing another wide winger as they prepare for a season with European football, during which team depth will be essential.
Domenico, thus, becomes a viable target for the Hammers, who already have enquired about the winger as per the report. Apart from Chelsea and West Ham United, there is interest in Domenico from Borussia Dortmund while Serie A teams Milan and Lazio are also keen.
