Chelsea started negotiations with PSG centre-back Presnel Kimpembe. Thomas Tuchel wants to strengthen the squad during this summer transfer window. However, clinching a deal for France international will be riddled with a gamut of obstacles.

Kimpembe has grown leaps and bounds since breaking into the Parisians first-team setup in 2014. Now one of the vice-captains at PSG, Presnel has turned into a pivotal figure for the Parisians, playing 180 games for the Ligue 1 giants.

At the same time, the 25-year-old defender has also established himself as a regular for Les Bleus side, with his stock continuously rising in the last couple of years. Suffice to say, his displays have been noticed by some of the biggest teams in Europe.

According to the report, Real Madrid have already been linked with the French centre-back, who has now emerged as the subject of interest from the Blues.

The interest from the London club is not too shocking, considering Chelsea are in a precarious position over the future of German defender Antonio Rudiger, with talks over a new deal dragging on longer than anticipated.

In addition, Roma are interested in signing Kurt Zouma this transfer window, according to Metro. As a result, it is understandable why the Blues would want to add a centre-back for a second successive summer.

To that end, Gianluca Mancini, Maxence Lacroix and Diego Carlos are among the defenders to have been linked with the Blues. And now, the World Cup winner has emerged as a viable target as well.

However, the Blues will face several stumbling blocks in pursuit of Kimpembe. For one, Presnel himself might be reluctant to call it quits at the Parc des Princes despite the arrival of Sergio Ramos.

Indeed, the Frenchman is waiting to see how his role evolves in the coming campaign before taking any calls on his future. Therefore, any possible move for Kimpembe will need to wait till winter at the very least, as things stand.

Nevertheless, it seems like the Blues could make their move for Presnel, and it will be interesting to see if a move can see the light of the day this transfer window.

The London club have been keeping an eye on the defender and are looking to lure him to Stamford Bridge this transfer window, but the German manager will have to sell footballers first. Chelsea have already offloaded £50m worth of footballers but are ready to sell even more.
