Chelsea keeping close tabs with Borussia Dortmund centre-forward Erling Haaland and preparing a huge offer worth €150m for the striker as the London club look to test the Bundesliga giants’ resolve.
Norway international has quickly developed into one of the most prolific strikers in Europe over the past couple of years.
Having burst onto the scenes at RB Salzburg, Haaland earned his big move to the German club in winter 2020 and has since managed to raise his reputation further with impressive displays.
To date, Erling has plundered 57 goals in 59 matches for Borussia Dortmund, 41 of which came in the 2020/21 season. The 21-year-old striker’s displays have landed the centre-forward on the radars of almost every big team around Europe.
But, the Blues have shown the strongest interest in securing the Norwegian striker’s services. The London club are in the market for a new centre-forward, having seen Olivier Giroud leave Stamford Bridge for Milan.
Meanwhile, Tammy Abraham is staring at an unknown future at Chelsea, which makes things tricky for the German manager, considering that neither Kai Havertz nor Timo Werner were good enough in the front-line during the last campaign.
As a result, signing a new striker becomes imperative for the Blues, with Erling being their main target. And now, Jan Åge Fjørtoft has claimed that Chelsea are ready to lodge a huge offer for Haaland. “Chelsea have him as their main target.
They would like to test Borussia Dortmund with a fantasy offer, and a fantasy offer will be nearly €150m double what they can get for him next summer,” Fjortoft said. However, Fjortoft adds that the Blues’ bid is unlikely to deter Borussia Dortmund’s stance on the matter.
“Borussia Dortmund say all the time, ‘he will stay, he will stay’. They said that about Jadon Sancho one year ago, and he stayed, so it is most likely that Erling Haaland will still be a Borussia Dortmund footballer in this coming season, but we are waiting for that big, big offer from Chelsea Football Club.”
While the Blues stay intent on signing the Norwegian goal machine, Chelsea, of late, looks to be identifying possible backup plans if Bundesliga giants do not change their stance. Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic has emerged as one such option for the London club.
It now stays to be seen whether Erling remains put in Bundesliga this summer or whether the Blues can convince the BVB to part ways with their centre-forward.
