Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour believes there ‘will be a lot of teams interested in securing the services of Declan Rice ahead of the next season, however, urged the player to sign a new contract and remain at Wet Ham United.
Declan Rice has been heavily linked with a switch to Chelsea – where he started his football career at the age of 14 and his impressive Euro 2020 season has only increased rumours of an impending transfer.
Thomas Tuchel plans to strengthen his midfield area ahead of 2021/22 seaosn and Chelsea are expected to renew interest in Rice after they failed to sign him last year, however, the Hammers are demanding £80m for their prized asset, according to the Football.london reports.
England international midfielder has already turned down two contract offers from West Ham United, recent reports claim there is a growing sense of optimism at the London Stadium that the 22-year-old anchorman is going to sign a new long-term contract.
It’s believed that any agreement would see the Hammers midfielder become a top earner at the club, with the London outfits also ready to make him as their skipper when Mark Noble leaves the club.
‘He was probably one of England’s best midfielders in the final,’ Parlour told talkSPORT when asked about rumours that Rice will sign a new contract.
‘He’s a great player. I’m sure they will come to an agreement where he signs a new contract and that secures West Ham as well.
‘So West Ham now will get top money for him if he does move on, a little bit like Jack Grealish when he signed a big five-year contract.
‘Aston Villa know someone will have to pay big money now for Jack and Declan will be the same.’
‘I think it’s down to the player and I’m sure there will be a lot of takers for Declan Rice after the Euros he’s had as well. said Parlour.
‘But I think one more season at West Ham wouldn’t do him no [harm], skipper as well. That’s a big thing for him.’
