For what seems like an eternity at the moment, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have stolen all the Chelsea headlines of late.
It almost seems as though we would be hearing both names more especially as the latter is on the brink of signing an improved contract.
The impressive form in which they’ve kicked off the season has earned them endless praises from Lampard and the Chelsea faithful.
Thankfully, all the unbearable noise might stop as another Chelsea youngster is on his way to steal the show from under their noses.
19-year-old Conor Gallagher is the latest name on everyone’s lips.
The teenager, currently on loan at Charlton Athletic, has had an emphatic start to his Championship season.
It’s his first season in first-team football and the midfielder has scored an incredible three goals in four starts so far this season – and that’s from midfield too, remember. Quite the start.
It mirrors the success of Mason Mount and Reece James from last season, who are both now in the Chelsea first-team squad.
Gallagher, if he continues this way, will find himself close on the tail of Mount in particular next season, especially with Frank Lampard in charge.
The teenager will be boosted by the fact that the Blues are in a difficult transitional period (transfer ban) and any added talent that will not raise eyebrows (a homegrown player) will be very much treasured at the moment.
The young Englishman can also take solace in the fact that all of Chelsea’s youngsters loaned to the Championship last season have all had first-team call-ups and he could very much be in good shape to follow that trend.
He’s another very impressive midfielder, and Chelsea are inundated with them right now. Although it makes you wonder how Lampard will fit them all in when he becomes ready for first-team action as well.
Because surely, Gallagher is yet another talent who has to get an opportunity in the first team one day very soon.
And if his performances can also be consistent enough, we could yet be in line for another “Masom Mount-esque” rave of the moment talk.
