This is it. Today is the day! After the longest 48 hours in the history of time, Chelsea’s ultra-complicated pursuit of a new manager could come to a meaningful conclusion today. That’s the main theme of this edition of Chelsea news and transfer gossip.

Now, unless you’ve been hiding under a rock or found yourself too busy watching the World Cup to be bothered by trivial matters, you’ll be aware that Chelsea have spent the best part of the off-season chasing Maurizio Sarri. The not-quite-former Napoli manager found himself stuck in Italy due to the blood pact he signed with Aurelio De Laurentiis. After watching his minions faff about and fall over themselves while he was on holiday, Roman Abramovich is said to have personally intervened by calling up De Laurentiis and asking him if he would like a one-way trip to Siberia.

And now, according to several reports in the Italian media, not only are Chelsea getting Maurizio Sarri, they’re also getting Jorginho with him. In fact, it is the other way around. Manchester City were reported to be very close to signing Jorginho, but Chelsea made a higher bid which greased the wheels on Sarri’s departure too. I guess there’s nothing more to say than #WelcomeSarri and #WelcomeJorginho.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Daniele Rugani is also supposedly inbound to Stamford Bridge from Juventus for a cool £35 million. What that means for one or more of Zouma, Luiz and Cahill remains to be seen. But in the words of the great Michael Scott from the US version of The Office – “I am not going to exclude good people from our staff simply because they are threatening to you. And unless you have a better argument than that, I suggest you leave.”

Another one on his way out of Juventus is Gonzalo Higuain. The arrival of Ronaldo means Juventus need to recoup some of the money through sales and savings in wages. And there’s only one starting spot available up front when Ronaldo’s around, no matter what the formation is. So, Big Hig is out on his arse and Chelsea, for some reason, are opening their home and their heart for him. If Big Hig does dock himself at London, Juventus would have made back the entire €100 million they spent on Ronaldo in an instant. Maybe next time we should try poaching whoever devises their transfer strategy.

One player who is definitely coming to London but not to Chelsea, is Jean-Michael Seri. The Nice midfielder did not get his dream move to Barcelona last season but after Chelsea’s interest cooled and Arsenal signed Torreira instead, Seri had to settle for newly-promoted Fulham. Meanwhile, Instagram user extraordinaire, Willian, caused quite a stir when he ‘liked’ a photo posted by a Barcelona fan account, making it clear that he would prefer a move to Barcelona. That’s how you interpret these things, right?

That’s about it, then. Once Sarri is signed, sealed and delivered, we are sure to hear more rumours about players, however improbable. Read all about it, right here.
