Chelsea have been linked with a number of potential candidates to replace Antonio Conte, who is thought to have had a shaky relationship with the Chelsea hierarchy, as head coach/manager. The Italian was expected to take a swift departure after Chelsea’s FA Cup victory, however, the situation has dragged for longer than first thought and Chelsea are yet to fulfil Antonio’s expected departure. Sarri is most likely going to be Conte’s successor; however, there have reportedly been problems in negotiation with Maurizio’s contracted club Napoli. But it is looking as if Sarri will be leading Chelsea going into the 18/19 season.
Sarri’s playing style
It’s no hidden secret that the ex-Napoli manager plays attractive football, and will be bringing a style of play Chelsea fans haven’t seen for a very long time, with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich mostly only hiring defensive minded managers as of now. However, Maurizio Sarri is known for his admirable attacking style of football, transforming Napoli into a club that any football fan would love to watch, and indulge all the talent on display. His formation at the Italian side was 4-3-3, and that’s what most expect him to bring to Chelsea. The formation is very fluid and gives players the freedom to express themselves especially the front 3, who will be interchanging.
Sarri likes his side playing in triangles in the build up play, so each player always has an option; this helps his side maintain possession. At Napoli When attacking the fullbacks pushed forward and the CB’s pushed wide with a midfielder dropping in-between them, so during build-up play the formation transforms to a 3-4-3, and this is how the triangle play comes into place. This is displayed in the image below.
What this means for Hazard
Hazard is regarded as one of the best players in world football, however, his goal record isn’t compatible with these statements, scoring just 12 Premier League goals last season. However, in the Belgium super stars defence Chelsea’s playing style hasn’t exactly helped Eden match the goal tallies of Messi & Ronaldo etc.
This could all change under Sarri who allows his attackers to express themselves and attack freely. We could potentially be seeing a completely new and improved Eden Hazard who plays with freedom and a player who is happier with his role. This could also be the deciding factor for the Chelsea man, who has been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge in recent years
