Chelsea have been linked with almost every forward on the market this past month, the list is infinite. But which striker should Lampard create his top priority?
The Blues are in severe need of reinforcements up-front. Tammy Abraham is having a brilliant start to his Chelsea career, but cannot carry the burden. He scored his 13th league goal against Burnley but won’t be available weekly. Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud are not regarded as suitable understudies. The Belgian came for acute criticism from some Chelsea fans after a poor performance against Nottingham Forest last weekend. Giroud, on the other hand, has barely had a look-in all season, making just seven appearances. Timo Werner has had the most prolific seasons of some of the names. The 23-year-old has scored 18 goals in 17 league matches and provided six assists along the way. In terms of quality, he might be the most suitable choice. But he is unlikely to be happy to play second fiddle. There might also be a range of different clubs in because of him and Chelsea might not prove to be the most attractive option for the German. Gabriel Barbosa and Habib Diallo have proven themselves to be prolific in recent times. Diallo is flourishing in a fighting Metz facet in France and Barbosa is discovering chances difficult to come by in Inter behind Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku. These are likely to be attainable targets for Lampard but carry with them danger.
Moving onto Dembele. The Lyon striker looking like the real deal and is playing with the football of his life. He’s 10 goals in 18 league games and has a similar style to Tammy Abraham. Chelsea have already seen a bid rejected and the French club are adamant he will not leave. His features make him well suited to the Premier League and he would certainly provide brilliant up for Abraham. Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has supported the Blues move for the Frenchman and if this isn’t a reason to look at signing a player then I really don’t know what is. The Blues should do whatever they can to secure the young French striker’s help if it be in January or in the summer.
