January 26th, 2022 marks one year since Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as Chelsea manager following the sacking of Frank Lampard. The 14th manager of the post-2003 Roman Abramovich era at the club. Tuchel signed an 18-month contract with the option for an extra year. He became the first German to be appointed as head coach of the club. After winning the Champions League on his debut season, Tuchel signed a contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2024.

Tuchel joined Chelsea after a run of just two wins in eight under Lampard. The club was visibly low on confidence and 9th in the league, following a 2-0 loss against Leicester City.

Thomas Tuchel’s debut season with the Blues can be highly rated, and it was one of the best runs in the club’s history. The German guided Chelsea to their second Champions League trophy in May last year, as well securing a top-four finish last season and delivering the UEFA Super Cup in August.

Tuchel beat out Pep Guardiola and Italy boss Roberto Mancini. “It was a pretty normal day so far at training. I have just come here,” Tuchel said. “But now you have said my name, and it is pretty surreal. I am overwhelmed and a bit uncomfortable.

“I enjoy the journey and the club. It is a good fit. The company on the journey is so good. We lost a bit of track to Manchester City in the league but we follow our goals still and be the best version of ourselves.” he said.

He also won UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year and German Manager of the Year.
The German manager created history after reaching the Carabao Cup final this month. Thomas Tuchel has become the first Chelsea manager to lead the club to the finals of the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League.

Tuchel has won 40 of the 67 games he has managed to date. A win percentage of 59%, the same proportion as Mourinho’s second spell at the club. Tuchel has recorded 40 wins, 18 draws, and just nine losses. Chelsea has forwarded 112 goals, besides allowing 42. They have a goal difference of +70. Overall, Chelsea has also registered 36 clean sheets under Tuchel, showing the defensive strength of the Blues.

In 43 Premier League games, Tuchel has secured 24 wins, 13 draws, and six losses. Chelsea has scored 73 goals, besides conceding only 31. He has won two Manager of the Month awards in March and October 2021.
