Premier League 2018/19 Tactical Analysis: Chelsea's loanees

After starting his career in his native France, Mendy played at the Le Havre Academy before signing a professional contract with the third division of Cherbourg in 2011. Edouard Osok Mendy (born 1 March 1992) is a professional footballer who plays in the Premier League. Chelsea club and Senegal national team. It was world football awards season again, but Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was likely to miss the mark. To be sure, there has not been a better goalkeeper in recent Champions League seasons, with Mendy scoring a record nine goals without a goal and Chelsea taking a surprise victory in the competition. Chelsea and Senegal international Edouard Mendy expressed his pride at being awarded the Best Goalkeeper of 2021.

Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy had been shortlisted for the 2021 FIFA Goalkeeper Award. I am even more proud to be the first African goalkeeper in history to win this title, and I hope to pave the way for many more. After receiving the FIFA Men’s Best Goalkeeper 2021 award, Mendy was also named Goalkeeper of the Tournament at AFCON, with Mane receiving the award as Player of the Tournament.

The Senegalese goalkeeper has consistently been one of the team’s best players since signing him in September 2020, but it was his heroism against Brentford that helped him show his skills. After a stellar year at Chelsea, the 29-year-old received the prestigious accolade, where he helped the club win the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup. Mendy joined Chelsea in September 2020 and soon established himself as a top player, helping the Blues win the Champions League in his first season. However, Mendy has been a real eye-catcher since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

In his first matches at Stamford Bridge, Mendy showed how much he belongs in the Premier League’s bright lights with five consecutive breaks since his Premier League debut when Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 4-0 and ended with blue. They beat Rennes 3-0 in the Champions League a few weeks later. To top it off, Mendy played a significant role in Chelsea’s 1-0 final win over Man City in the Champions League. Particularly in the first half, Mendy made some incredibly acrobatic stops that kept Chelsea in the lead at times when it looked like he was in real danger.

But it was Mendy‘s burgeoning gift for scoring seemingly inevitable goals that cemented his reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the modern game, as evidenced by his famous penalty kickback by Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero in May. Not to mention his favourite save of the season when he jumped onto the grass to dodge a deadly low blow from Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema in the Champions League semi-final that same month. On 8 May 2021, Mendy saved Sergio Aguero’s panenka-style penalty as Chelsea went 0-1 to beat Manchester City 2-1.
