European champions Chelsea have allegedly shown an interest in the Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain’s centre-back Presnel Kimpembe, who could be thinking about his future following the arrival of the Spain legend Sergio Ramos to the French capital.
The former Real Madrid skipper’s introduction to the side has led the Frenchman to ponder his role within the roster.
Over the last few seasons, the home-grown player has become an important figure both on, and off, the pitch for the Parisians and was even bestowed the title of vice-captain.
However, the arrival of Sergio has given Presnel doubts and, according to a recent report from L’Equipe (via Get French Football News), his former head coach Thomas Tuchel keen on eventually taking him to Stamford Bridge.
However, keen interest is all there is at the moment. There are a host of factors that make this transfer difficult.
His current deal with the French club takes him all the way to 2024 with Paris Saint-Germain, while Presnel remains very fond of his boyhood club, with whom the star has been since the age of ten and won 19 honours with them.
As a result, the 25-year old Kimpembe will bide his time and see how his current situation at the club changes because of the new addition Ramos.
Following Thiago Silva‘s departure last year, Kimpembe was a stand out figure for the team, making 40 appearances in all competitions during the 2020/21 term – in spite of an injury midway through the season – and playing a starring role in Mauricio Pochettino’s team’s progression to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Furthermore, Thomas would likely have to cash in in order to bring the 2018 World Cup winner to the West London, particularly with other business occurring.
Chelsea are still on the hunt for a prolific hitman and are allegedly readying a whopping £135m offer for Borussia Dortmund’s sensation Erling Haaland to test the water, while also having contacted Robert Lewandowski’s entourage to discuss a potential switch.
There have already been sales, however. Fikayo Tomori and Victor Moses left the club for £24m and £4m fees respectively earlier in the transfer window while, more recently, Olivier Giroud has left for Milan for £2m, Marc Guehi has gone to Crystal Palace for at least a rumoured £18m, and starlet Lewis Bate has signed for Leeds for what is said to be £1.5m.
